Clash of Clans June 2026 Update — Hero Journey, Ruin Witch & Hard Mode
The biggest June update in years. Hero Journey overhauls hero progression, a new TH16 troop arrives, Hard Mode launches for friendly wars, and the Yeti gets reworked.
Supercell dropped the June 2026 update on June 15th and it's one of the heavier patches in recent memory. Hero progression gets a full redesign, there's a brand new troop and spell, and war players finally get Hard Mode. Here's everything you need to know.
Hero Journey — Hero Progression Reworked
The biggest change in the update. Hero Journey is a new progression system that tracks the combined levels of all your Heroes and rewards you as that total climbs — not per hero individually.
- Unlocked via the Hero Hall at Town Hall 7
- Every hero level earned across all heroes contributes points to the track
- Designed to make the grind feel more rewarding, especially during Dark Elixir droughts when you can only focus on one hero at a time
For clan leaders: TH7–10 recruits are now a better investment than before. The Hero Journey system gives mid-level players a clearer progression path, which generally means more consistent engagement.
New Troop: Ruin Witch (TH16)
The Ruin Witch is the new TH16 troop — and she works differently from anything currently in the game. Instead of attacking buildings directly, she summons Ruin Knights from destroyed buildings as she works through a base.
The higher the value of what she destroys, the stronger the knights she summons. She's a cleanup and momentum troop rather than a brute-force attacker.
New Spell: Angry Spell
A new spell with a 6-tile radius that changes troop behaviour inside it. Any troops that enter the spell's area start prioritising nearby defences instead of following their usual targeting logic.
In practice: drop it near a cluster of defences to focus your troops where you need them. It adds a layer of tactical control that most spells don't give you.
Hard Mode — Opt-In for Friendly Wars
Hard Mode is here, and it applies to Friendly Challenges and Friendly Wars only — this isn't live matchmaking, it's an opt-in challenge setting.
The modifiers:
- Defences deal +5% more damage
- Attacking heroes have −10% HP and −15% DPS
Toggle it on when creating a Friendly Challenge or Friendly War. Supercell has flagged this as evolving — more modifiers and refinements are coming in future patches based on player feedback.
For war clans: Hard Mode is going to become the go-to practice format for serious CWL preparation. If your clan runs frequent friendly wars, this is worth enabling.
Yeti Rework
The Yeti's Yetimite-spawning mechanic has been overhauled.
Before: One Yetimite spawned regardless of how much damage the Yeti took in one hit.
After: One Yetimite spawns per 600 damage taken in a single hit. A 1,800-damage hit now spawns three Yetimites at once. Additionally, spawned Yetimites now scatter around the Yeti rather than stacking on the same tile.
This makes the Yeti significantly more resilient against high-burst single targets (Eagle Artillery, Scattershots) and more consistent in practice.
Hero Level Cap Increases
Three heroes are getting +5 levels each:
- Barbarian King
- Archer Queen
- Grand Warden
Max-level heroes at TH14–16 now have a fresh upgrade track to work through.
4× Speed Mode
After 120 seconds of battle time, players can activate a 4× speed mode for the remainder of the attack. Useful for cleaning up the last 30–40% of a base without watching troops slowly wander around.
Global Chat Returns
Global Chat is back. You can join an existing community or create your own to talk with other players outside of your clan. Different from in-game clan chat — it's an open channel per community.
Other Notable Changes
- Equipment targeting fix — Equipment (Fireball, Seeking Shield, Spiky Ball) now accounts for building size when selecting its initial target, reducing misfires on nearby large buildings
- Clan Castle default — Clan Castles now default to Sleep mode instead of Guard mode when first rebuilt, stopping accidental wasted defences
- Clan Capital Treasury — Can now hold excess Capital Gold as a shared pool, deployed automatically when new Capital upgrade levels release
