Finding the Right War Clan at Every Town Hall (TH8–TH18)
What war clans expect from you changes completely between TH8 and TH18. Here's what to aim for at your level — and where to find clans recruiting it right now.
The biggest mistake players make when clan-hunting is treating every Town Hall the same. A TH9 joining a max-level war clan gets benched; a TH16 in a farming clan stagnates. What "the right clan" means changes as you climb.
Here's the level-by-level version.
TH8–TH9: Learn War, Don't Grind It
At this stage you're learning attack fundamentals — dragons, hogs, and your first real hero timing decisions. You want a clan that wars regularly but casually and doesn't bench low Town Halls.
Avoid clans demanding perfect performance. Look for ones whose description mentions teaching, and whose member list actually contains other TH8–9s (check the Town Hall distribution on any clan's ClashScout page).

TH10–TH11: Your First Serious War League
TH10 is where wars stop being forgiving — Infernos change everything. This is the right time to join a clan that runs CWL every single month, because League Medals will fund your upgrade path. If you're not sure how CWL works, read the CWL guide first.
Look for clan level 6+ with a public war log and a win rate above 50%. You want a clan good enough to promote, but not so elite you never make the roster.

TH12–TH13: Commitment Becomes the Currency
From TH12, war clans start expecting both attacks used, every war — and CWL rosters get competitive. Heroes matter enormously now, so clans will look at your hero levels when you apply, not just your Town Hall.
This is also where clan quality varies the most. Use the activity score rather than descriptions: a TH12–13 in a genuinely active clan progresses roughly twice as fast as one in a half-dead clan, purely from CWL medals, capital raids, and donation access.

TH14–TH15: The Filter Levels
By TH14–15, serious war clans expect near-max heroes for your level and consistent triples against your own Town Hall. Applications get rejected here more than anywhere else — don't take it personally. Clans at this level have earned the right to be picky, and you should be equally picky back.
Check the clan's CWL league before applying: Crystal or above means your medal income is respectable; Master+ means it's excellent.

TH16–TH18: Elite Territory
At the top, everything inverts — clans compete for you, if you can prove performance. Top war clans here run Master–Champion CWL, expect war participation as a given, and often interview in Discord before accepting.
The Top 100 most active clans is the natural hunting ground. Look for clans whose war win streaks and CWL league match your ambition, and use the compare tool to line up two candidates side by side before committing.

Whatever Your Level: The Rules Don't Change
- Match the clan's war intensity to your real playtime — not your aspirational one
- Data over descriptions — activity score, war log, donation spread
- A clan slightly above your level pulls you upward; one far above benches you
- You can always move again — the right clan at TH11 usually isn't the right clan at TH15
